Maple-pear Applesauce

Ingredients
- 6 apples, peeled, cored, and cut into 1-inch chunks (pink lady, fuji, or macintosh)
- 2 pears, peeled, cored, and cut into 1-inch chunks (bosc, comice, anjou, seckel)
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon pumpkin pie spice
Recipe
- 1 combine all ingredients in a large nonaluminum saucepan; set over medium heat, cover, and bring to a simmer.
- 2 cook for about 12 minutes, or until the apples are slightly softened.
- 3 uncover and cook, stirring occasionally to break up the large pieces, for 7-10 minutes, or until the apples are soft but retain some texture.
- 4 taste and adjust the flavor with more maple syrup or lemon juice; let cool and refrigerate.
- 5 keeps for about 1 week, covered in the refrigerator.
